Shame that they didn’t go to the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway as L & H did while they were here.

That was 1947; I believe this is about their final UK tour in 1953, I hope not to make the film too heavy on the sentimental side.
UK visits: http://www.laurelandhardythebritishtours.com/talks.html

The 1947 tour included visits to Belgium, Denmark, France and Sweden.

Yes, the film is set during their final tour in 1953. I watched it today and liked it very much. Yes, it is sometimes very sad, but it never gets overly sentimental and still has some very funny scenes that greatly pay tribute to these two timeless comedic geniuses. The performances of Coogan and Reilly were absolutely stunning.

I have finally watched the copy given to me for Father’s Day, by my lovely daughter. The film is excellent, but in typical BBC fashion the publicity to promote it seems to have slipped between the cracks. Shame.

I did like the film, but I was not a fan of the conflict with Hardy doing a movie without Laurel and Laurel seeing it as betrayal and calling him a lazy ass to his felt very disingenuous. It is true that Hardy did a couple of movies without Laurel but Laurel encouraged Hardy to do those movies, even sending him a letter of congratulations after the release of Zenobia. Also, they performed various skits during their tour but all video recordings are lost and it would have been nice to see those recreated instead of bits from their films.
