Taken from BFi/British Transport Films Volume 7: The Age of the Train 2-DVD set. Can be seen here - an interesting 12-minute film, probably aimed mainly for schoolkids with lots of so-that's-how-they-do-it stuff. And of course the great Peter Purves as presenter in his sheepskin to attract kids attention. Dockside Bedford TK Ford parts being shipped from Liverpool (= Halewood) to Belgium by BR trains and boats BR Hovercraft and intriguing yellow sporty thing in bottom right - Marcos??? Trains of the future under development - most were abandoned for technical reasons |

The most famous steam engine here of course being Hardwicke, the London and North Western Railway "Improved Precedent" Class 2-4-0, which took part in the 1895 race to the north. (Through Staffordshire.) Link to "www.nrm.org.uk" -- Last edit: 2017-07-10 16:46:31 |
