G-MANN ◊ 2007-09-27 22:35	Check out the new stills I posted from the titles sequence (is Slough really that much of a dump?), are any of the vehicles worth listing (the bus, the lorry, the cars on the roundabout)? Sometimes I really think it's worth posting background cars from titles sequences of TV shows, because the viewer will see those vehicles many times if they watch a lot of episodes.

modell ◊ 2007-10-03 18:05	I've really been wanting to see this original UK version as I love the American series. I've heard that the first season episodes of the American Office were filmed almost exactly like the episodes in the British series.

G-MANN ◊ 2007-10-03 18:50	I've seen the first season of the American Office, the first episode is very similar to the first episode of the British Office (it was probably a test to see if the comedy could transfer to an American setting with a different cast), the rest of the epsiodes don't copy the plots of British ones but they do borrow some elements and scenarios. The main characters share a lot of traits with their British counterparts but they try to add some originality to them rather than make them complete copies. Michael Scott isn't just an American clone of David Brent, Steve Carell didn't try to copy Ricky Gervais' performance but they do have things in common (poor tasteless attempts at humor, awkwardness about racism, avoidance of responsibility, deluded self-image). I think in the next seasons they tried to branch out further from the original, but I haven't seen this episodes yet. I've enjoyed what I've seen of the American Office, but it's a bit different in nature to the British one, which is more tragic and less light hearted than the American one, but it's very true to life. The British Office is considered a modern classic, I think it remains to be seen whether the American Office will achieve that status.
G-MANN ◊ 2007-10-03 19:03	I can't believe there's been so many different franchises of The Office (Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant must have made so much money out of it), an American version is one thing but there's also been French, German and French Canadian versions! I'd be interested to see the French and German takes on it, I think people from different cultures have slightly different senses of humor (and there's the old stereotype that Germans don't understand humour!), some French films I've seen (like The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie) have an offbeat style of humour that I imagine would be totally lost on an American audience. SteveA ◊ 2007-10-03 21:37	The bus is a Dennis Dart with Wright Handybus body in the livery of First Beeline, then the local bus company in Slough. It's a rarity on this site so IMHO worth listing (but I would say that).Here's a whole gallery of the type: http://intobusesgne.fotopic.net/c1052605.html The only other Dennis Darts here so far are two Marshall-bodied and an early Carlyle Dartline bodied one.

Richard Davies ◊ 2008-01-19 23:16	There's a Mk2 Volkswagen Polo that stands out in the title sequence, driving past the Slough Trading Estate sign. Not related to the office but to cars, Citroen used to have an assembly plant in Slough 1926-66, putting together RHD cars mostly from parts imported from France. This made them easier to sell in Commonwealth countries, as they counted as being "British Made".

G-MANN ◊ 2008-02-22 17:00	Unlike the US version we only see one main character's car (David Brent's Vauxhall Vectra). Although in the first episode, we hear that Gareth owns a Triumph TR3. "Yeah, I've got a TR3. I bought it for £1200, done it up, now it's worth 3 grand."
