BFI/COI Collection Vol 5: Portrait of a People 2-DVD set. "An impressionistic view of contemporary British culture ranging from sculptors and painters to theatre and ballet, and even including sequences on jewellery and fast cars" and it's a load of pretentious crap. Don't waste 29 minutes of your life watching this. Apparently commissioned for showing at the British Pavilion at Expo 67 in Montreal (was it just a coincidence that a few months later Harold Wilson infamously devalued the £ which led to the UK's economic chaos in the 1970s??) and nominated for Best Short Film category at the 1967 BAFTA Awards - it must have been a really really bad year.

All the car sequences come in a 2-minute burst mid-film and is a stupid Mary Quant fashion promo with lots of stick insects running round London in bizarre costumes. There might be an incomprehensible plot about Nasty Men trying to kidnap them but it doesn't make any sense; the footage is often reused in later stuff but I'm not fully convinced this was the primary source, although it's the most complete sequence I've seen so far. All the cars are 1965-66 C and D plate instead of 1967 E, so there might yet be an original 1966 source with a (hopefully) coherent plot.
