When the ship is in the advanced stages of sinking, don't all the cars in the hold come loose and crush an unfornate member of the crew?

Some sources say there was only one car (Renault) in the vessel and some say there were several cars. Which is true ?

See this info

I think it only had one

(edit) : well the guy that wrote that say that thje car could be restorable...er i dont think so as the titanic was completely lifted so that measn that renault was destroyed when that and crushed for all the load the ship had in.

the fact is, that there was only one claimed as lost with other cargo on Titanic. http://www.keyflux.com/titanic/facts.htm but there truly was a lot of cars in the streets back in 1912 ;) of course we can not compare it to today :) but Henry Ford made his work :p

I've been a Titanic FREAK ever since this movie came out and for years on end now have studied the story VIGOROUSLY. So, with that, I can tell you there was but one car aboard Titanic: A Renault, 110% possitive; though I love cars, I wouldn't know the model of a car as old as the story of Titanic. The actual car aboard Titanic, though, was blue; you can ask me almost any question about Titanic and I would give it an answer!

I would name things I know, but I would go on and on. Anyway, this is the best film ever in every way, no doubt about it; I've seen it COUNTLESS times over!

i dont remember the car...

That scene was filmed in a mock-up car, built as a disposable prop just for the movie. It sat on a salvaged Model T rolling chassis with a sheet-metal replica body and no mechanical gear at all. The interior was blue velvet glued to plain plywood seat forms. Kate Winslet, in an interview, noted that she and Leo were covered in Vaseline to look all sweaty. When Cameron yelled "Cut!", they were both covered in blue strands of velvet, stuck to their sheen of Vaseline. The car itself was made to resemble the Renault Town Car shipped aboard the Titanic, but was NOT a genuine anything! It was built to be destroyed in the flooding scene by Adams Custom Engines of Reno, Nevada.

So just a wooden mock-up

@mc2: please downsize the pic. This size costs much capacity.

Has anyone tried looking up some behind the scenes photographs or footage cut from the Southampton scenes for some extra cars or full identification?

I've gone through the deleted scenes on the bluray (all 57 minutes of them) and there's no additional footage from Southampton - no cars at all.

Thought exercise - would the Titanic be as memorable if it *hadn't* sunk, had a long service life and was scrapped or scuttled to make an artificial reef in the '50s?

She'd probably be somewhat memorable for surviving two World Wars (unlike the Carpathia which was torpedoed by a U-boat in WWI), but she'll achieve nowhere near as much fame even if she was still around as a museum ship like the Iowa-class battleships.

There was a theory that the Titanic didn't sink, but it was Titanic's sister ship, RMS Olympic.

This theory was based on the fact that both the Titanic and Olympic were identical in appearance, and length but when both the Olympic and Titanic were being built, they were given hull identification numbers and those numbers were stamped on the vital components throughout both ships.

Olympic's hull number was 400, and Titanic's hull number was 401, the theory that it was the Olympic that sunk was dismissed when a underwater examination of the wreck's propellor, the number 401 was imprinted on the propellor, confirming it was Titanic that sank.
