The Ford RS200 Surprised there are this many Fords (7, 5 different models). |
◊ 2006-08-02 23:43 |
Probably because it's a british documentary. I guess an italian documentary would focus on the Lancia Stratos & Delta and the Fiat 131, while a french one would feature the Alpine A110, Peugeot 205 Turbo16 & 206 WRC... |
◊ 2006-08-02 23:44 |
I'm guessing Subaru, Lancia, Mini Cooper, Evo, Celica etc were also there? |
◊ 2006-08-02 23:45 |
Let's hope so. |

But Ford is American. I was surprised there were no Subarus. When I think of rally cars, I think of Ford Focus' and Subarus. |
◊ 2006-08-02 23:49 |
Focus and Impreza are really recent compared to all these cars (like you, you are too young for all these old cars ) Edit : but of course maybe they will just be added later to the page... Main Ford make is American, but there were UK, German and French Ford divisions, and each one produced their own cars. So some Ford cars are UK cars, though Ford is a US make... -- Last edit: 2006-08-02 23:51:58 |

I'm guessing this isn't the entire list, that may take a while to upload (The Subaru must be in that list, as Richard Burns won the championship in one, as did Colin Mcrae, and this is a British documentary!) |

I'm missing the Nissan 240RS http://images12.fotki.com/v239/photos/1/105162/2831012/051105140-vi.jpg and Toyota Celica Twincam Turbo Link to "www.geocities.com" Not the fastest, but, being large coupes with angular lines they looked great. |
◊ 2006-08-02 23:56 |
I like angular cars like that |

Ya, I really only understand cars from 1988 to date, this means not the DS . |
◊ 2006-08-03 00:10 |
Which was a major rally car by the way But it will probably not be listed here, as the French title mention "30 years of legend" only... -- Last edit: 2006-08-03 00:10:53 |
explorer4x4 ◊ 2006-08-03 00:12 |
The DS was a rally car? Was it as "major" as the Ford Focus, Ford RS200, Subaru Impreza or Audi Quattro? |
◊ 2006-08-03 00:14 |
There are quite a few other interesting rallye cars. Not such hand-made monsters like we see today, but ordinary cars: Jaguar Mk.VII Citoën ID Saab 92 Panhard PL17 All Rallye Monte Carlo: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rallye_Monte_Carlo Link to "najette1968.free.fr" Other interesting races: East African Safari Rally London-Sydney Marathon Rallye Rallye Paris-Dakar Rallye Berlin-Breslau And probably the strangest of them all: The Plymouth-Banjul Challenge for which the rules are: 1 Competing cars must cost less than £100. 2 Maximum budget for the vehicle Rally Preparation: £15 3 Once the Rally is underway, there will be no form of formal assistance from the organisers in any way - Teams are ON THEIR OWN. 4 All of vehicles that make the full distance to Banjul must be handed over to the Challenge Control Group to be auctioned under controlled conditions (reported to The Gambian Government) in aid of local Gambian Charities. 5 All vehicles must be LEFT-HAND DRIVE!! The above rule is necessary because The Gambia is a left-hand-drive country. RHD vehicles are not really welcome in The Gambia. The enormous popularity of this event has meant that we have had to introduce this ruling in order to ensure that the Challenge continues to receive the warm welcome extended by the Government and People of The Gamabia. RHD cars may not be permitted entry to The Gambia or may be subject to import duties and disposal charges. THEY KNOW WHO WE ARE NOW!!! "Rules are made to be broken ..." - Julian Nowill "(Except Rules 4 and 5)" |

I do not know if it was more or less famous than these ones (why do you always want to compare the DS to other cars?), but it was famous in rallyes, that's sure. And more than the Focus, sure too (I do not remember that the Focus was/is so famous, currently the first places are rather taken by Citroën Xsara...) (note: Citroën ID = DS, it is just a cheaper version) http://www.citroen.mb.ca/cItROeNet/sport/ds-rally-cars-01.html -- Last edit: 2006-08-03 00:22:53 |

Did the focus ever even win a championship? i seem to remember it always being either subaru or peugeout, now its citroen.... |
◊ 2006-08-03 01:04 |
I don't think so? but I'm not a specialist of rallyes... It would be nice to have the "palmares" of World Rally Championship since it exists... does some one knows? |
◊ 2006-08-03 01:05 |
what about Porsche 911?? |
◊ 2006-08-03 01:11 |
I found that on wikipedia, but they start in 1973... probably FIA WRC didn't exist before? Link to "fr.wikipedia.org" |

I'm suprised the Opel Ascona 400 and Manta 400 from the early 1980's aren't listed as both (especially the Manta) won a good number of rallies before being overtaken by the Audi Quattro and Lancia 037 : http://www.motorbase.com/vehicle/by-id/1279748024/ |

I noticed a few cars missing ..so I've been through my DVD a got a few pics ..+ added some extras. |
◊ 2006-08-19 21:30 |
do someone know wher i can download wrc videos? i like to see the view inside and specially how fast they go |
◊ 2006-08-19 23:02 |
True, there are quite a few cars missing, which should be in this movie in my opinion. What about the Citroën ZX Rally raid, The Misubishi Pajero, which where very succesfull in Paris - Dakar and other Desert rallies. Also the Xsara WRC should be in this... |
◊ 2006-08-20 01:11 |
..I think the cars you mentioned are too New (this was originally released on video 1999-2000...and the newest car they show is the Peugeot 206 WRC. ..For other rally cars ...Keep watching this coming week ... as I have a few films lined up.! |
◊ 2006-08-20 01:26 |
Well, that would explain the Xsara, however the Pajero and the ZX where succesfull between 1988 - end nineties, so the they could have been included... |
◊ 2006-08-20 01:56 |
..Yes ..you are right.! ..No mention of them though.! (..I remember the ZX rally cars ..but don't recall Pajero's as being well known ..in Europe at the time.? ..I think this is why it's not been included) ..I know it says 'Worlds greatest rally cars' ...but I think the producers are all from Europe.! -- Last edit: 2006-08-20 02:08:21 |
◊ 2006-08-20 10:23 |
Well, they Pajero had most of it fame in Paris - Dakar, like the ZX: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dakar_Rally#List_of_winners -- Last edit: 2006-08-20 10:23:30 |
◊ 2006-08-21 13:00 |
Moreover Pajero's have been winning in various Toute-Terrain races all over Europe. |
